Join the (book) club! Avid readers are always in the mood to curl up with a good book and turn a few pages. Now, Hamilton County’s proposing an innovative opportunity to spend some time with your fellow bookworms, discuss favorite reads, and maybe even make a few new friends.

Last fall, the Nickel Plate Express in Noblesville added a “Read and Ride” excursion to its list of themed train ride options, an ideal way to read and relax while riding the rails. The offering was so popular, it came back again for February and has already expanded to add new dates in March as well.

These round-trip rides depart from Hobbs Station in Noblesville’s Forest Park Depot for a scenic two-hour journey through the Hamilton County countryside, passing through Atlanta, Arcadia, and Cicero. Music and noise are kept to a minimum to ensure a peaceful atmosphere with snacks, charcuterie boxes, beer, wine, and beverages available for purchase. All guests have to do is BYOB: Bring Your Own Book.

Read and Ride trips offer the choice of a family car or an adults-only car to accommodate readers of all ages. Other Nickel Plate Express options include Candlelight and Cocktails, wine and spirits tastings, trivia nights, and caboose rides. All aboard! Tickets for the Read and Rides are $15 per person and be aware, they tend to sell out quickly. Go to nickelplateexpress.com for more information, schedules, and reservations.
