I don’t know what it is about Fall in Hendricks County, but the festivals and attractions come alive as the air becomes a little cooler and crisper. There’s just something about this season in Hendricks County that makes it a perfect time to visit.
Hendricks County boasts a prairie maze to go along with a couple of corn mazes. It is home to one of the best public places to see fall color in the state, and we have tons of events, as fall is our most popular festival season.
You can also find even more things to do with personalized trip itineraries, inspirational trip ideas, a fall bucket list, and much more by checking out our Fall Road Trip Guide.
But here's a quick summary of the top 5 Hendricks County fall attractions from a local insider:
This is an easy No. 1. If you only have time to visit one place this fall in Hendricks County, Beasley’s Orchard should be it. It is open every weekend now through the end of October. Visitors can tour the orchard, take a hayride to the pumpkin patch, buy fresh produce and other goods in a Civil War-era barn turned rustic market, and wind their way through a giant corn maze.
You can also pick your own apples right off the trees in their u-pick portion of the orchard, shoot apples from a cannon, become king or queen of hay mountain, play in the barnyard bonanza family area, and sample their award-winning apple cider, their hard cider (adults only), apple dumplings, apple cider doughnuts, or caramel apples.
This fantastic park in North Salem will help you relax and become one with nature within its peaceful serenity. McCloud remains one of the best public places to see fall color in Indiana and has some amazing scenic trails.
It also boasts a mile-long prairie maze that is free to the public and a popular Fall Colors Festival in October, which celebrates the season with fun, educational activities.
If McCloud is the best public place to see fall color, Natural Valley Ranch’s scenic property in Brownsburg may be a close second. And what better way to view it than on the back of a horse?
Natural Valley Ranch offers guided horseback rides through its woods and ravines. It truly provides an experience that will create lasting memories. The ranch also boasts two vacation rental properties on site—a cottage and a log cabin—if you need a place to stay while you’re here.
If you’re looking for a fun Indiana fall attraction for your family, like Beasley’s but with fewer crowds, you may want to visit this farm north of Brownsburg.
Hogan Farms offers a huge corn maze, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, and hayrides through the end of October.
I have so many other recommendations; it is hard to limit my suggestions to just five. However, for those fans of haunted attractions this time of year, I submit to you the legend of the Avon Haunted Bridge.
Various stories and legends abound about how this architectural marvel got its spooky allure. But the best way to experience the bridge is by visiting Washington Township Park and following the road to the lower portion of the park.
