With a wide selection of accessible hotels, attractions, restaurants, venues, and green spaces to explore, Fort Wayne rolls out a warm, safe welcome for travelers and families who may need a little extra support navigating the city.

It all starts from the very moment guests touch down. The $52 million Project Gateway renovation of the Fort Wayne International Airport has enhanced accessibility with new seating, a sensory room where overwhelmed travelers can relax and regroup, a family restroom, adjusted countertop heights, and a lower baggage claim clearance.

Designed by renowned architect Louis Kahn, the Arts United Center is also fresh off a recent $42 million upgrade that incorporates universally designed restrooms, accessible infrastructure and seating, and full vertical/horizontal access to the entire property via elevators and ramps.

Since its inception in 1965, the Fort Wayne Zoo has always aimed to accommodate children of all ages and abilities with “right-sized” features, rides, and exhibits and is now officially recognized as a Certified Autism Center by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards.
Downtown on the banks of St. Mary’s River, Promenade Park celebrates inclusion with wide textured trails, a wheelchair-friendly boat launch, 3D-printed maps, and accessible playground features.

In yet another forward-thinking initiative, Downtown Fort Wayne’s amazing collection of vibrant murals includes 3D-printed tactile plaques for signage—all installed at accessible heights, giving visually impaired visitors an opportunity to experience the public art for themselves through the sense of touch.

With a state-of-the-art athletic center that boasts collegiate-sized courts and facilities, the Fort Wayne-based Turnstone non-profit organization functions as one of the largest Paralympic Sport Clubs, training centers, and competition sites in the United States, hosting adaptive programs in wheelchair basketball, power soccer, sled hockey, and other activities.
